Rocket City Academics

Rocket City isn't like any other city, because Reeths-Puffer isn't like any other school. Our mission focuses on only one goal: SUCCESS.
- Success for our students in the classroom, in college, in life.
- Success for our families who contribute and care for a school system that is second to none.
- Success from an unrivaled faculty fueled by innovation and compassion and educated by over 300 college degrees.
"AP classes are very demanding. We have to be certified through AP Boot Camp in order to teach them. It's very hard work, but nothing prepares the kids for college better than this." |

Rocket City hosts five elementary schools, each classroom equipped with smart boards and audiovisual presentation technology. Reeths-Puffer elementary education offers a 12-week rotation for co-curricular specials like physical education, art and music. We are the only school on the Lakeshore to offer a comprehensive K-12 world language program. Our elementary schools have active Parent Teacher Organizations that engage the community, host events and manage fundraisers. Rocket City is focused on nurturing students who love to learn, raising citizens who participate in their community, encouraging guardians who care for the less fortunate, and training new stewards of the environment.
Third and fourth grade students at Reeths-Puffer Elementary participate in a field trip every spring. The students release salmon that have been raised in the classroom into the Muskegon River. Biology students and staff from Grand Valley State University give lessons and conduct wetland study and data collection activities.

Students at McMillan Elementary School enjoy reading Dr. Seuss on their pajama day. The more children read, the better they become at reading and there is no single skill that contributes more to lifelong success than the skill of reading.

In Intermediate school the 5th and 6th graders from the entire district come together for the first time. Reeths-Puffer Intermediate is where Rocket City students are first introduced to the fine arts program with over 250 students participating in band and choir. The visual arts program produces outstanding art works that are displayed at the Muskegon Museum of Art. Service Learning projects and Community Service projects get students involved in the world beyond the walls of the school, and they begin thinking like responsible community members. Reeths-Puffer Intermediate School is also where students begin to discuss college. Parents and students are invited to attend College Night where 25+ colleges and universities from around the state send representatives to promote their schools. Students work through a College Launch Curriculum where they learn all about college from vocabulary, to finances, to the lifelong benefits of a college degree. Finally, every 6th grader in the district visits a college campus at a four-year university on a day-long field trip. Students get to tour the dorms, eat in the cafeteria, visit classrooms and lecture halls, and talk with students and faculty at one of several schools. In past years we have visited: CMU, MSU, FSU, GVSU, and WMU.
